Alfaro, Victor

The designer Victor Alfaro was born in 1965 in Chihuahua, Mexico. In 1981 he went to the USA as an exchange student, to improve his English and study communication at the University of Texas. At the time working with fashion was just a fantasy for him.

However, he managed to move to New York to study at the FIT (Fashion Institute of Technology), and graduated in 1987. Soon after his graduation he got the job of assistant to designer Mary Ann Restivo. In 1991 he started his own brand. And from then on his career began to be a great success.

But despite the success, in the late 1990s Alfaro was facing financial difficulties and had to close a licensing agreement with the manufacturer Gilmar. Unfortunately the agreement did not work and Alfaro had to stop production in 2003. Ten years later he got the brand back and relaunched it in 2013.

Alfaro began his career as a prodigy who dressed sexy and powerful women who know how to use their bodies. Today he still wears them, but he also works with less outlined silhouettes and a style close to street style and sports wear. Victor Alfaro is acclaimed by the fashion press and has been called American Alaïa and the next Oscar de la Renta and Bill Blass. And today he is considered to be on the same level as Marc Jacobs, Narciso Rodriguez, and Isaac Mizrahi. Some of the celebrities who use the Victor Alfaro brand are: Madonna, Nicole Kidman, Demi Moore, Mariah Carey and Winona Ryder.
