Aran

In the fashion universe, Aran is a type of knitting pattern native of the Aran Islands, located at the coast of Ireland.

This type of knitting is a relief design created by spinning the wool by hand, braiding it, twisting some points and forming balls in others, resulting in a central part and two side panels. Such a process is usually done in the natural color of the wool.

Beginning in the middle of the 20th century, the Aran pattern, that was exclusively of sweaters, started being applied in coats, scarfs, cardigans, as well as in Tam O’Shanters bonnets and mittens.
